A cripta da catedral está decorada por lindíssimos frescos. Era proibido tirar fotografias, mas eu fui uma bandida e consegui tirar algumas, cuja qualidade não foi a melhor, mas foi o que se conseguiu...

The cathedral's cript is decorated by beautiful frescos. It was forbidden to take pictures, but I broke the law and managed to take a few. The quality isn't the best, but it was what I managed to do...
Siena - Museo dell'opera del duomo

An habit throughout Italy is to take the works of art from its original place and protect them in places with more suitable conditions for its duration...This is the museum which protects the works previously located in the cathedral.
Siena - Facciata del Duomo
A fachada inacabada da catedral é um dos resultados da luta pela grandiosidade entre Siena e Florença. Como forma de competir com Florença cuja catedral é maior que a de Siena, iniciou-se a construção de um aumento à catedral original. Esta alteração nunca foi terminada porque foi interrompida pela chegada da peste à cidade e com a posterior falta de dinheiro.
Esta fachada inacabada foi mantida intacta e é possível subir até ao topo onde se tem uma vista magnífica sobre a cidade e arredores. Foi muito difícil fazer a selecção das fotografias e por isso os próximos posts ainda serão de fotos tiradas no topo da fachada.

The unfinished façade of the cathedral results from the struggle mentioned in the previous post between Siena and Firenze. To compete with Firenze which cathedral is bigger, the constuction of an addition to the original cathedral begun. This addition was never finished because it was interrupted by the arrival of the plague and the subsequent lack of funds.
This unfinished façade was mantained intact and it is possible to climb the stairs to the top where it is possible to experience a magnificent view of the city and surroundings. It was very difficult to select the photos taken here so, the next posts will also be of photos taken from the top os the façade.
